WESTERN SICILY | COMING IN 2027
Discover the timeless beauty of Western Sicily on this richly layered eight-day journey that weaves together history, art, landscape, and culinary tradition. Based in Palermo and Trapani, the tour explores Sicily’s extraordinary cultural crossroads—from Norman and Arab masterpieces in Palermo and Monreale to the ancient Greek temples of Segesta and Selinunte.
Hill towns like Erice, Phoenician sites on the island of Mozia, and the sun-washed streets of Marsala reveal a region shaped by centuries of exchange, devotion, and artistic achievement. Along the way, the rhythm of travel is balanced with pleasure: seaside lunches in Mondello, local pastries in Erice, renowned Marsala wines, and the option of a day among the Egadi Islands. This is a journey designed for curious travelers who savor both depth and delight—an immersion in Western Sicily’s luminous landscapes, layered civilizations, and enduring spirit.
IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ST. FRANCIS | OCTOBER 31 — NOVEMBER 7, 2026
In 2026, the world will mark the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Italy is preparing to honor this historic anniversary with a rich array of commemorations, including lectures, concerts, performances, and spiritual gatherings.
In recognition of this extraordinary moment, Spoleto Study Abroad will offer a carefully curated journey for those drawn to the life, teachings, and enduring spiritual legacy of Saint Francis. The program will explore the places most closely associated with the pivotal moments of his life and transformation.
Our home base will be Spoleto, the city where Francis experienced the dream that altered the course of his life. From there, the journey continues to Assisi, his birthplace and the spiritual center where he lived and worked for much of his life. Participants will visit Gubbio, site of the legendary encounter with the wolf; Bevagna, where tradition holds that Francis preached to the birds; and Subiaco, associated with his creation of the first living Nativity. The program concludes at La Verna, the remote sanctuary in the Apennines where Francis received the stigmata near the end of his life.
This immersive experience offers participants the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Saint Francis, engaging deeply with the landscapes, stories, and spiritual insights that shaped one of history’s most influential figures.
