Ciao!
Today was another beautiful day in Spoleto!
The photographers enjoyed a trip to the countryside in San Brizio, a small village outside Spoleto, as they worked on landscape photography. The sunflower fields were vibrant and dramatic as they hovered their heavy heads in the blazing sun; providing the students a fun challenge to manipulate their exposures and practice on location.

The remainder of the week they will work in post production editing and begin their studies on street photography.

This afternoon, the instrumental students continued working on foundational techniques to improve their overall playing. One of the unique aspects of this year’s instrumental program is that our two American students are working alongside local Spoletini youth to improve their art (and Italian language skills).

This evening, after dinner, we had our first masterclass. These classes bring the entire program together to showcase pieces in progress. Masterclasses encourage students to celebrate the growth of their peers across disciplines. By holding these sessions, students are taught to focus on the creative process as a whole, not just the final product. Tonight we saw pieces from Creative Writing, Instrumentalists and Vocalists.
Creative writing students Nikki and Sofia presented revised drafts of their journaling on the prompt “Home & Away.”

The instrumental students, Ann, Katibeth, Luigi and Lucia performed a piece in three parts by Bloch which they have been working on during their afternoon class.
Three vocalists performed pieces they have been working on in their private lessons. This evening Kiara presented a rendition of “Ave Maria” by Beyoncé. Jenny sang “O Mio Babbino Caro,” and Clara performed “Amor Commanda.”

The first masterclass of SSA 2016 was a phenomenal success, and we are excited to see what the rest of our students will present over the course of our remaining classes.
Today marks the halfway point of the program, and we are so happy to have you joining us on this journey!
A dopo!
